So let’s just say you don’t eat red meat… No beef, No pork, Only chicken, fish and turkey. Got that? Cool! Now, let’s say you’re stranded on an island for months and the only thing to eat are goats and pigs. You decided to kill a goat and/or a pig every now and then and have a little meal. Someone comes along and rescues you months later. You then have a welcome home meal with your family and when your Aunt asks you if you’d like some pork, you tell her, “No thanks Auntie, I don’t eat red meat.” Some may say that you are correct in labeling yourself a “Non-Read Meat Eater” because you only ate the red meat as a means to survive. Others may say, you have no right to label yourself a “Non-Red Meat Eater” because, regardless of why, you still recently ate red meat!!! Ok…

So, let’s say you have a friend who gets locked up… And as a means to survive sexually, they do certain sexual things with the same sex while in prison. Upon release, they are approached by the same sex to do some of that same stuff. They tell the person NO and they are not willing to participate because they do not wear the title of gay, or lesbian, or bisexual, or bicurious, or any  homosexual, or transsexual, or anything else other than heterosexual. Some may say that they are correct in labeling yourself a “Heterosexual” because they only chose to do the slip n slide with the same sex as a means to survive. Others may say, they have no right to label themselves as “Heterosexual” because, regardless of why, you still engaged in the Same Gender Olympics. Let’s take it a step further, what if you’re a person who has tried same sex scenarios at a given time in your life, without the pressures of prison, yet you don’t anymore, what would you say to that?

Let’s be VERY clear. As a heterosexual WOMAN LOVING man, I do know gay people and have gay friends. And although the gay lifestyle is not my cup of tea, I want to BE CLEAR in stating that, this post is not designed to make fun of, offend, or look down upon anyone or any chosen lifestyle. So… I would love to know how my fellow citizens view the aforementioned scenarios. Please share…

For some reason, I think the comment wall below will either be VERY empty or VERY full, lol!!

No, I’m not going to prison. Nor have I ever been. Though I’ve been in handcuffs a few times and have spent more time than I’d like in a cell, sleeping on a bench, staying on point with who to befriend and who to keep an eye on, etc… My run ins are NOTHING compared to what others go through and have gone through. What I want to talk about today is a word called RESPECT.

There once was a time when a person would be ashamed of getting locked up. There once was a time when parents would hide the fact that their child was locked up by saying, “Oh, he went away to boarding school” or “He’s down south with family.” There once was a time when you didn’t want to be associated with a person who got locked up if you didn’t have to. I’m not saying that viewing incarceration that way is right or wrong but it does make me scratch my head as to how it’s the complete opposite today. There are certain industries in which a prison background (or having been shot) gives you an advantage. There are people who boast about how much time they’ve done and/or how much time their loved one has done. There are “Free Johnny” T-Shirts printed all the time, celebrating a loved one who’s locked up even if they’re guilty. There are even times when a person’s criminal history can give them the one-up over a person who might be better suited for that slot. How did this happen? And is this ok?

I mean… I can’t front, I watch First 48 and Locked up Abroad and Gangland and all of these other crime/prison based shows as often as I can. And I am intrigued by it all, I shalln’t tell a lie. There’s even a rapper named Maino, who may never be on anyone’s Top 10 Talented List and isn’t the most lyrical but to respect and admire his story, his past and what he attempts to symbolize today is very understandable. He celebrates the transformation from what he was to what he is and hopes to become, nothing wrong with that, Right? I even know females who squirm in their seats at the thought of a “Rough Neck” or a man who is or once was in prison, “Just as long as it wasn’t rape or child molestation…” according to them. So, is it safe to say that society in general is intrigued by the crime side of things hence our new found love and endorsement of it? And if so… WHY?!? Or are we all a bit twisted in our thinking and should none of the criminal side of things be celebrated or glorified? Break it down for me. Lemme know…

Oh, and let’s not talk about the females in prison. That’s a whole different topic that I actually address on the Salon Stories album… (via itunes or have one delivered to you via Amazon) You can watch a small clip ~>HERE<~ (7:28 mark)

Talk to me, Family…

Ok, So… I don’t exactly wear my pants up to my belly button so I don’t expect you to. But umm… Maybe I’m buggin but is it getting a little outta hand now? I’m guessing the point is to show off what kind of belt you have on, I guess. I just don’t get it… why have on a belt and still have to waddle while walking so that your pants don’t fall to your ankles. We get mad at the way “certain people” look at us and why they create stereotypes of us but we do foolery like this?!?

Am I looking at this the wrong way or should I go cop some fancy belts and let my pants go low enough that I’m showing the back of my underwear too?
